Hi, I’m Dan. I live in Portland, Oregon, which is one of a small handful of cities that can legitimately call itself a coffee capital — and if you’ve spent any time here, you know Portland doesn’t let you forget it. People in this city love coffee in a way that borders on unreasonable. You can’t throw a stone in any direction without hitting a coffee shop, and half the time you’ll hit a roastery instead, because a lot of the people making the coffee here are also roasting it themselves a few blocks away.
That’s honestly how this site started. Living here means you end up with strong, specific opinions about coffee whether you’re trying to or not — about grind size, about which dripper actually deserves the counter space, about which local roaster is worth the extra few dollars a bag. Pour Over Coffee Guide is me writing those opinions down instead of just cornering another friend at a dinner party about it.
I’m not a professional barista or a Q-grader — I’m someone who makes a lot of pour-over, who’s bought (and returned) more gear than I’d like to admit, and who’d rather tell you honestly that a $15 dripper is fine than talk you into something expensive you don’t need. When I do recommend spending more, it’s because I actually think it’s worth it, not because it’s the more expensive option.
A Note on How This Site Makes Money
Pour Over Coffee Guide participates in the Amazon Associates program. When you click a product link here and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. The price you pay is the same either way. We only link to gear and coffee we’d genuinely recommend based on our own research and use, and that recommendation always comes first; the affiliate link is just how the site stays running.
